SafestCatch.Net ~ Safest Catch dot Net

This site is a work in progress and has grown out of my experiences in the Fishing Industry.  As I type this Log Entry, I have 28 years of full time employment in the Industry, not including growing up in a fishing family and spending at least 3 months of every year of my life at sea in the North Pacific/Bering Sea from the age of 4 (I had my 5th Birthday on the Rainier - 110' Martinolich crabber - in Unimak Pass) until I was chained to a desk, managing vessels full time in August of 1997 (all said 44 years of fishing).

Vessels that I have fished aboard:

  F/V Rainier

  F/V Paragon

  F/V Pengwin

  F/V Isafjord

  F/T Arctic Trawler

Vessels that I have managed:

  F/V Pathfinder

  F/V US Liberator

  F/V US Intrepid

  F/V American No1

  F/V Pavlof

  F/V Pengwin

  F/V Isafjord

Fisheries that I have fished:

  St. Matthew's Blue King Crab

  Bristol Bay Red King Crab

  Bering Sea Bairdi Tanner Crab

  Bering Sea Opilio Tanner Crab

  Aleutian Island Brown King Crab

Bering Sea Trawl: Cod, Turbot, Pollock, Sablefish, etc.

Gulf of Alaska Trawl: Cod, Pollock, Sablefish, etc.

Fishing Operations that I have managed:

Crab:  Blue, Red and Brown King Crab

As time allows, I will expand on this 'about' Log Entry and provide links to the fisheries, ports, vessels, seasons, etc. that have brought me to where I am in my career - a point where I feel it is important to remind people that Safest Catch is more important than Deadliest, and without Sustainable Fisheries, we have no future.

SafestCatch.net ~ a play on Deadliest Catch, reminding people that safety at sea and sustainable fishing practices go hand in hand.
